FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

RACE FOR LIBERTARIAN PARTY NATIONAL CHAIR HEATS UP

Indianapolis, Indiana– The race for national chair of the Libertarian party just became more interesting. Late last night, speaking to a room full of supporters at an Indianapolis eatery, Mark Rutherford, the current national vice chair, announced his candidacy for the party’s top position.

“I have been tremendously impressed with the shift in the political climate in America towards restoring individual rights and personal freedoms. More and more, Americans are realizing that the two-party system is not working to solve our country’s problems. I truly believe that with the proper leadership this is the year the Libertarian party can offer the choice that America desperately needs. Therefore, I am pleased to announce my candidacy for chair of the National party.”

Rutherford, who is widely regarded as a “political optimist” within the party, will emphasize his many years of proven leadership to distinguish himself from his opponent. A long time party member and political activist, Rutherford has served as chairman of the Libertarian party of Indiana from 2000-2007 and on the Libertarian National Committee (LNC) from 2001-2006. He also currently serves as President on the board of multiple well-known community and political organizations, such as Advocates for Self Government, Atlas!Liberty PAC, and the Woodstock Club. So far, Rutherford’s only opponent to announce his candidacy is the current national chair, Mark Hinkle.

The Libertarian National Convention will be held in Las Vegas May 4-6th at the Red Rock Resort. Highlights of the convention will include nomination for the Libertarian candidate for president and national chair. Supporters will cast their votes for Rutherford on Saturday May 6th.
