Free Tickets Available for U.S. Senate Debate in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS—The Indiana Debate Commission is offering 262 free tickets for the first of its three U.S. Senate debates, which is scheduled at the downtown campus of IUPUI on Monday, October 11.

The 8 p.m. (Eastern time) live broadcast at the University Place Conference Center and Hotel Auditorium will be moderated by Mizell Stewart III, a board member of the commission and editor of the Evansville Courier & Press and courierpress.com.Stewart also hosts two public affairs television programs on WNIN-TV (PBS) in Evansville: “Newsmakers” and “Lawmakers.” He has been an editor, managing editor, local news assigning editor and award-winning reporter at several newspapers, including the Akron Beacon Journal, the Tallahassee Democrat, the Dayton Daily News and the Springfield News-Sun.

Questions for the three candidates, Brad Ellsworth, Rebecca Sink-Burris and Dan Coats, can be submitted for consideration in all three upcoming debates at www.indianadebatecommission.com. Questions can also be mailed to the commission’s Indianapolis office at 3909 N. Meridian St., Indianapolis, Ind., 46208.

“The commission’s mission of putting Indiana voters first means that people can not only watch the debate on television and online via the commission’s website, but also join us in person for the evening debate,” Stewart said.

Candidates are not provided the questions in advance. Those people whose questions are selected by the commission will be asked to join the live broadcast in Indianapolis as commission guests and to ask their questions. Some questions may also be pre-taped and presented by video.

The commission also provides for a free satellite feed for broadcast outlets. Tape-delayed broadcasts aired nationally via C-SPAN in Washington, D.C.

Indianapolis debate tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Only two tickets will be allowed per person. No group tickets will be accommodated.

8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday

8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday

(There is metered parking along University Boulevard between Michigan and New York and in lot 80 directly south of the campus center.)

The Indianapolis Star, 307 N. Pennsylvania St.

9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday

(Enter at the front of the building and ask for the public service desk. There is metered parking along both sides of Pennsylvania Street and limited open spots at the front door for quick pick-up.)

The next debates are scheduled in:
Fort Wayne on October 22 at 7 p.m. Eastern
Vincennes on October 25 at 8 p.m. Eastern time/7 p.m. Central time

Local tickets will be distributed in those areas prior to those debates.
