INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- The State of Indiana fared best of the 50 states in the percentage of votes cast for Bob Barr and Wayne Allyn Root.
With the final numbers tallied and reported by the Secretary of State's office, Indiana topped 1% in the Barr/Root race. According to the LP National website, Indiana was the only state to break that threshold.
Among Indiana counties, three surprising counties topped the state's highest percentage of votes. Jennings, Fountain and Starke Counties each surpassed the 2% mark. Jennings captured the highest percentage of vote with 2.21%. Interestingly, none of the top three counties have state-affiliated county organizations.
Election Results Vary for Libertarians Across State
Submitted by lpin on Wed, 11/05/2008 - 10:11 |INDIANAPOLIS, IN -- The morning after landslide victories for President-elect Barack Obama and Governor Mitch Daniels, libertarians are still reporting the results of their local races.
In Statehouse races, libertarians did not fare well with the surge in overall voters. While vote totals increased, the percentage of vote compared to past elections suffered.
In District 54, Rex Bell mounted the best challenge across the state, taking 33% of the vote. Bell more than doubled his vote totals over the 2006 race in the same district.

Panoply of Ballot Measures Awaits Voters

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- When voters in Arizona, California and Colorado go to the polls on Tuesday (Nov. 4), they will be weighing in on a lot more than Barack Obama and John McCain. They also will be deciding the fate of 34 ballot measures, including proposals to ban gay marriage, criminalize all abortions and revisit immigration policy.
The three states are the biggest battlegrounds in a busy year for ballot initiatives. A total of 153 proposals await voters in 36 states this election cycle, including 59 measures that were placed on the ballot by activist groups rather than state legislatures. So-called “citizen initiatives” often require the collection of tens of thousands of signatures to qualify for the ballot.

The Liberal Case for Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party
Submitted by lpin on Mon, 11/03/2008 - 13:36 |ATLANTA, GA -- Barack Obama is going to win the presidency. While the end of the current era of Republican mismanagement may be good news in many respects, this is no cause for complacency for anyone concerned about American liberty and America's place in the world. Senator Obama, despite his eloquent call for reform, has demonstrated that he, like other politicians, is ever ready to trim his sails to gain a few votes. A vote for Bob Barr and the Libertarian Party would be the best way to tell President-elect Obama that the American people are serious about real change in Washington.
Sen. Obama's rhetoric is uplifting and positive, but the Senator who showed genuine foresight and courage in opposing the Iraq war spent most of the primary season edging away from his initial tough stand. Will he order the troops to exit Iraq? Will he bring them all home, or simply shift them from Iraq to another foreign country?
