Libertarian Party of Indiana has a Record 68 Candidates! More Still Needed

The Libertarian Party of Indiana has just updated their 2010 Candidates site. http://lpin.org/candidates/

The party has a record 68 candidates! The Libertarian Party of Indiana has never had this many candidates at this point during election season.

Look at the list. If you see that there is no Libertarian running in your area, we need YOU to run or put your name on the ballot. If you are concerned about your Country and State, now isn’t the time for shrinking violets!

We can’t encourage people to vote libertarian if we don’t have someone on the ballot. It’s not possible if our most committed activists don’t put their name on the ballot!

We have until June 20th to appoint Libertarians to a ballot vacancy. We are especially looking for committed libertarians to run for State Legislative offices. There are currently 38 legislators running unopposed in 2010.

Please fill this form out and return it to lpinhq@lpin.org ASAP!

News Release: Libertarian Party of Indiana Nominates 2010 Candidates

The Libertarian Party of Indiana held its annual convention in Indianapolis this past weekend, April 23, 24 and 25. The Libertarian Party of Indiana selected its candidates for federal and state seats. Being Indiana’s only third-party, the LPIN does not participate in the primary system. It holds nominating conventions to elect candidates.

The convention selected Mike Wherry for Secretary of State. Wherry is a Greenfield resident, Naval officer, and patent attorney. The Secretary of State race is significant because the LPIN will achieve automatic ballot access for four years by winning two percent in the general election. For more information, visit www.mikewherry.com. Hendricks County resident Eric Knipe was selected as the party’s nominee for State Auditor.

Rebecca Sink-Burris was nominated by the delegates for United States Senate. Sink-Burris is a Monroe County resident and a life-long teacher. She challenged Evan Bayh in his first bid for United States Senate, and was the party’s candidate for Secretary of State candidate in 2002. For more information, visit www.electrebecca.com.

The delegates also nominated candidates for all nine Federal House seats for the first time in many years:

NOTICE: A Cheat Sheet for 2010 Candidate Forms. What’s a CFA 1 Anyways?

This legal jargon may sound intimidating, but it amounts to less than 15 minutes of filling out simple forms to place you on the Indiana ballot as a Libertarian. We want you to know exactly when and where to file so you can get and stay on the ballot. We have many experienced party members that can help guide you through this process, but you’ll actually find filling out your paper work easier than you though.

The deadline to be nominated by the LPIN convention is 8 PM this evening in writing by filling out this form and emailing it to lpinhq@lpin.org. (http://www.chris-spangle.com/ning/LPINCandidateFormRev2.doc). If you miss this deadline, contact Chris Spangle at (317) 920-1994 immediately, or at the morning registration at the Convention. The rules of the convention allow for floor nominations.

If you are nominated at Convention, what do you fill out? (These ONLY apply to statewide and state legislative candidates and some local candidates: judges, prosecutors, and candidates in unaffiliated counties. If you are in an affiliated county, contact your local chairman. If you are a potential federal candidate, contact Chris Spangle with paperwork questions.)

Running as a Libertarian? A mandatory read! We’ve got all the help you need.

I have a fantastic problem. The LPIN has so many candidates that have stepped forward in the last two months, it has overwhelmed our staff. We are truly blown away by your willingness to spend your summer spreading the message of liberty and limited government. We need to know your final decision with the convention a couple weeks away.

It’s now necessary to impose another form on you all! I do apologize, but it’s important.  We will have a record number of  candidates, and we need to know who and how to contact them. So if you are taking that plunge, please read on.

We Need Candidates To Stand Up for Foundational Principles!

Dear Fellow Libertarian,I am writing to ask for your help in the 2010 election cycle. Today’s health care vote has motivated me to write this note to you. I believe that it has never been more important than this election cycle to run as many candidates that will unashamedly preaching the foundational principles of our republic.

Click HERE to let us know if you are ready to run or HERE if you want to volunteer.

This is the year for us to make the case to Hoosier voters that the Libertarian Party is the only reasonable solution in this radical political world. In talking to our friends, family, and co-workers, we want to ensure that voters have the desire and the opportunity to mark their ballots for Libertarian candidates next November.

The Old Parties have failed to uphold the public trust, and it is time for the voting public to restore it. Our citizen candidates run small yet effective campaigns. Our Libertarian candidates do not try to promote themselves. They try to work toward a better life for their families, friends, and neighbors.

How Does a Libertarian Candidate Get Placed on the Ballot? Does the LP have a Primary?

The Libertarian Party of Indiana is a unique political party legally in Indiana. It is the only party considered a “minor political party” because it has garnered more than 2% in the Secretary of State race. Because it has not yet achieved 10% in the Secretary of State race, the party does not hold a primary which is reserved for “major political parties.” Primaries are often incorrectly assumed to be elections for the entire voting public. They are actually considered closed party business in the eyes of election law. Republicans, Democrats, and Independents cannot participate in the other’s business. Only Republicans should choose Republican candidates for a general election and the same for Democrats.
