A Penny for your Thoughts…

Sometimes things just have a way of working out.

Last week THIS STORY came out about a judge in the Hagerstown Town Court (who just happens to be my bride of 34 years and a twice elected Libertarian, Susan Bell), and a man who wanted to pay his seat belt ticket fine with 2500 loose pennies. The defendent was upset about the law that requires adults to wear a seat belt. And rightfully so. Wearing a seat belt belongs in the “Good Idea, Bad Law” category. Seat belt laws create and address another victimless crime, something Libertarians would like to see a lot less of.

Book Review: Lies The Government Told You by Andrew Napolitano

Contrary to the famous quote by Mark Twain there are four, not three, types of lies. Twain’s famous trio is Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics. To his credit he never envisioned the Big Lie.  In short, the Big Lie can be defined as a lie so outrageous, so inconceivable, and so preposterous that its very audacity lends credence to its validity.

Judge Andrew Napolitano’s latest book is Lies the Government Told You Myth, Power, and Deception in American History.  In it, he examines 17 common misconceptions average Americans hold due to the Lies and Big Lies our government has promoted through the years. Let us examine in a limited fashion one of these lies.

Let’s Put the Oil Spill Crisis to Good Use and Take Control

“You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.” Rahm Emanuel

Finally, Rahm and I agree on something! Unfortunately, we’re going to part ways on the solution to putting the Deepwater Horizon crisis to good use. The Obama administration and the left will argue that the Federal Government needs to interfere more in the operations of oil companies, and needs to toughen environmental standards. I believe that this path lessens the self-interest and responsibility to protect it’s bottom line, and ultimately to protect our environment. Government interference, crony capitalism and the systemic failures it breeds are as much to blame for the spill as British Petroleum.

This episode explains perfectly why the American (and World) population are frequently growing tired of a class of people that say they are all-knowing and yet are all-failing while sticking us with the bill. It’s why the groaning for more personal responsibility is beginning to grow.

WASHINGTON – Mark Hinkle, newly elected chair of the National Libertarian Party, and former chair of the Libertarian Party of California, issued the following statement today about California’s Proposition 14, the “Top-Two” elections measure:

“Californians, please vote NO on Proposition 14. This is not the change we need. This Top Two system will shut out all but two voices in our November elections, which are the elections that count. Now more than ever, we need more political voices and broader representation on the November ballot, but this proposition will do just the opposite.
